Style

My daughter has a wonderful sense of style. She can pull off things that us normal people would look crazy in. So while Caitlin has never said a word about wearing a uniform to school she's added her own touch of style. She had a headband in, but must have taken it out before I snapped the picture.
Could you pull off those tights with that outfit?! =)

Caitlin's photo shoot

I was going through the pictures and found the ones below. I can't believe I forgot to post these. These were from her birthday photo shoot. My baby girl is growing up and she's beautiful inside and out. She picked out the outfit and changed it several times before she settled on an old favorite.

Racing Heart

You know those times that you're sure you've done something and yet it isn't finished?
Well I was quite sure I'd written about Dominic and the racing heart. But when I was writing another blog post and referred to it, I thought I'd check and make sure so you'd know what I was talking about. No such blog post exists. So here it is. =)

Recently I was talking to Jon about a new author I'd just reviewed and how much I liked her book. Dominic heard me describing the plot and begged to read the book. It was about a spy and he'd just finished several books on spies. He was positive he'd love the story. Since it was Christian suspense I knew it would be clean, but wasn't sure about how much suspense he could handle.

He LOVED the book. There were a couple of times he had to ask me a question about something, but for the most part he just enjoyed the story. One of those questions has lead to a whole amusing side thing.

He had read a paragraph where a woman mentions some things that she's not really liking about a guy. It went something like this - "He's arrogant, bossy, and he makes my heart race."

It was the female protagonist who was reluctantly falling in love with the male spy.
Dominic asked me what that meant - making someone's heart race.

I wasn't really sure how to respond. So I looked at Jon and batted my eyes at him and told Dominic
"Daddy makes my heart race."

Dominic gagged. =)

So now whenever we want him to leave so we can talk about something we say "We're getting ready to make our hearts race."

He clears the room so quickly you'd think it was on fire.

************

One morning I was waking up the kids. Dominic wouldn't wake up so I kept kissing him on the nose. In a very disgruntled voice he mutters "You DO NOT make my heart race."

Animals and Careers

Wednesday - Career Day

Caitlin wanted to be a vet "just like Ms. Tamorah". Dr. Tamorah is a friend of ours and the mommy to Caitlin's best friend. Caitlin has seen her in scrubs, but usually she sees her in regular clothes with a lab jacket. So that is what inspired her outfit. It took her almost half an hour to pick out the perfect shoes to go with the outfit. :/

Dominic is rather obsessed with all things Legos. His dream job would be to have a real job being paid to play with Legos. So he has learned everything he can about Lego professionals.
If you look closely, you will notice that my son didn't even get through breakfast before getting dirty. There really isn't such a thing as a clean boy in our house. It's just varying degrees of dirty.

Thursday - Animal Day

Dominic wanted to be an owl just like the one that came in his stocking this year.

Caitlin and I saw a picture of a girl dressed very similar online while we were looking for ideas. I was all for it, since it was so easy to implement.

 Caitlin's class, minus one.
Friday is always pajama day. And for some reason I didn't get pictures of that. You would think that would be the easiest and least stressful morning since they don't have to get dressed. But sadly that isn't the case. So pajama day we were almost late for school.

Nerds

Tuesday - Nerd Day
Oh my word! We had so much fun with this one.
I'm not sure if I should be horrified or proud, but my kids are amazing nerds.

Dominic totally got what a nerd was. And cracked us up for days with his imitations.
Dude makes a great nerd.

Caitlin didn't quite grasp the definition, but she mimicked Dominic which was cute.

 These are the cutest nerds!
Here are a couple of pics I stole borrowed from the school site.

Spirit Week

Every year, the first week back to school after Christmas break is Spirit Week.

We've really had fun with the themes that were picked this year.

Monday - Crazy Hair

Caitlin's request for crazy hair was to have each strand of hair that I braided be a different color. The hairspray color that we have is a bit difficult to work with. We'll have to try something else next year. So we compromised by having these extensions on both sides that I wove into the braid.

Crazy kid - crazy hair!

Christmas

We had a rather laid back Christmas this year. I was blessed with having everything finished several weeks before and so was able to spend more time doing the fun stuff of the season.
We enjoyed each day of the Advent calendar, although we had to shuffle some things around since weather wasn't very accommodating for the two parades on the schedule.

We had our little decorating party and once again the weather wasn't cooperating. It was pouring and a bad thunderstorm went through right before everyone was supposed to come. But thankfully two brave moms ventured out so we still had some kids here to help us decorate our Christmas trees.

Our first Christmas was at Grammy and Gramps on Christmas Eve.

One of the funnest things about presents is taking these two kids shopping. We'll give them a budget and who they are shopping for and let them go. Sometimes they are spot on with something the person would enjoy. But sometime they are so off the wall that it cracks us up.
Gramps received one of those gifts. Dominic and Caitlin laughed for the entire week before Gramps unwrapped his gift. It was worth every penny just to see them so cracked up about it. =)

Our second celebration was Christmas morning at our house. We opened presents

I wasn't sure how to wrap this gift. So I just wrote this note and put it on top of some books we'd given him. It worked!
and then had our traditional cinnamon rolls. We still had green icing from the decoration party.

Our third celebration was the next day at Grandma and Grandpa's house.

We had a wonderful Christmas vacation and really enjoyed the relaxing time spent with family.
