Spirit Week

I have a love/hate relationship with Spirit Week. The kids have so much fun and they look so funny/adorable/cute. But trying to come up with a five days of cool outfits for two kids is daunting and often expensive. Trying to shop for this stuff when I'd rather be working on Christmas stuff or having fun with the family is not my idea of a good time. But the kids enjoy it and that is the main thing.

Maniac Animal Monday

 Dominic was a rabid skunk.

Wacky Hair Wednesday

 Dominic was going for the old man look. So we cut the top super short and sprayed the sides grey. Didn't really show it well in the picture, but it was hilarious.

 I had some hair extensions and Caitlin went with that instead of a do or colored hairspray.

Animals and Careers

Wednesday - Career Day

Caitlin wanted to be a vet "just like Ms. Tamorah". Dr. Tamorah is a friend of ours and the mommy to Caitlin's best friend. Caitlin has seen her in scrubs, but usually she sees her in regular clothes with a lab jacket. So that is what inspired her outfit. It took her almost half an hour to pick out the perfect shoes to go with the outfit. :/

 

Dominic is rather obsessed with all things Legos. His dream job would be to have a real job being paid to play with Legos. So he has learned everything he can about Lego professionals.

If you look closely, you will notice that my son didn't even get through breakfast before getting dirty. There really isn't such a thing as a clean boy in our house. It's just varying degrees of dirty.

Thursday - Animal Day

Dominic wanted to be an owl just like the one that came in his stocking this year.

 

Caitlin and I saw a picture of a girl dressed very similar online while we were looking for ideas. I was all for it, since it was so easy to implement.

Friday is always pajama day. And for some reason I didn't get pictures of that. You would think that would be the easiest and least stressful morning since they don't have to get dressed. But sadly that isn't the case. So pajama day we were almost late for school.

Nerds

Tuesday - Nerd Day

Oh my word! We had so much fun with this one. 

I'm not sure if I should be horrified or proud, but my kids are amazing nerds.

Dominic totally got what a nerd was. And cracked us up for days with his imitations.
Dude makes a great nerd.

 

 

 Caitlin didn't quite grasp the definition, but she mimicked Dominic which was cute.

Spirit Week

Every year, the first week back to school after Christmas break is Spirit Week.

We've really had fun with the themes that were picked this year. 

Monday - Crazy Hair

 

 

 Caitlin's request for crazy hair was to have each strand of hair that I braided be a different color. The hairspray color that we have is a bit difficult to work with. We'll have to try something else next year. So we compromised by having these extensions on both sides that I wove into the braid.

I completely forgot to post the rest of the pictures from Spirit Week.

Day 2 - Animal

Skunk

 

 This kid cracks me up.

 I ran into a bit of technical difficulty. I made the assumption that I would be able to find white hairspray since it was in the stores last year. But every store was out. So we tried to make silver work. I also thought I had some face paint and couldn't find it anywhere. So I used an old tube of mascara and didn't tell Dominic.

 This outfit gave me FITS! I am not a seamstress. So when I pulled my sewing machine out of the closet I had to clean off a massive layer of dust. Then I couldn't figure out the bobbin thingy since it had been so long since I last used it. But the end result pleased Dominic. So it was all good.

 I might be biased, but this is one really cute kid! Even with wonky mascara all over his face. =)

Fortune Cookie

 Another technical nightmare. I couldn't find tan clothes. So we had to go with slightly burned cookie. And the sewing part, while much simpler, was still not easy for me.

If any Chinese people are reading this, I apologize for my appalling Chinese handwriting.

Spirit Week

It's that time again when my child can express his inner total craziness.

Since there wasn't school yesterday due to weather we'll be going into next week.

Today was Crazy Hair/Mismatch Day.

Every single time I looked at this child I laughed.

He chose the clothes and let me have free reign with his hair.

 I LOVE his hair!

 Want to know the funny part?! 

As we were getting ready to leave he made the comment that he was a 

bit embarrassed to go to school looking like that.

When I asked why he said his hair was "a bit too weird". 

The clothes and faces were fine though. =)

Spirit Week

Dominic has been looking forward to Spirit Week since school started. And I'll admit that after last year I was really looking forward to it as well. It is so fun to put our interpretation onto the theme of the day.

Day 1 - Crazy/Mismatch Day

Dominic wore a winter hat (that he picked out at the store himself)

a tank top, jeans and socks with flip flops. He looked sufficiently crazy.

 He's got the crazy part down!

 Dominic has an amazing teacher!

Day 2 - Hawaii Day

Caitlin was so excited because she had a lei as well. When we got to the school another student didn't have a Hawaii outfit so we lent her the lei.

Day 3 - Fancy Dress Day

This was my favorite. Dominic wears Polos and khakis to church. So we hit up several stores and then I found this hat. Perfect!

These two are just precious.

 

Day 4 - Future Day

Dominic changes his profession depending on what we are doing or what he's interested in at the moment. As soon as I got an outfit ready he'd change his mind. So we went with heaven. It was a bit more difficult than I'd anticipated.

Day 5 - Pajama Day

I had these cute pjs all picked out and Dominic BEGGED to wear these pants with a t-shirt. Since he mismatches his pajamas every night I figured this was probably more realistic and we went with it.

I'm so thankful for our awesome school that makes learning so much fun!
