Toothpaste and Halloween

This morning I hear a little voice coming from the bathroom -

"Hmm, I have toothpaste all over the back of my shirt! I wonder how that happened?"

I waited until the dear boy had vacated the bathroom before going to inspect.

Toothpaste was ALL OVER the floor, on the tub and my towel BEHIND the area where he would have been standing. It was also in the usual places like the sink, counter, and toilet.

What in the world was that boy doing while he brushed his teeth? On second thought, I don't even want to know.

I received a text one morning from the principle at the kids school. In the text was this sweet photo telling me about how they were holding hands during chapel.

Caitlin had career day at school. When we talked about it she told me she was going to be a princess.
"Caitlin, a princess is not a career."
In a very offended voice I was informed that -
"Princess IS a job."
So I asked her teacher about how much leeway we had with the career. She told me Caitlin could wear her princess outfit and that could be the stay-at-home mom, since SAHM's wore every day clothes. That way those that wanted to be a mom could still dress up.
When Caitlin heard that she decided that she really wanted to be a vet. That way she could work with animals. "Mom, your job isn't very fun."
WELL. . . I enjoy it.

So here is my little vet.

Halloween

 

We don't really do the door-to-door thing anymore. It's too much work for mom.
So we usually pick a church trunk or treat. This year we showed up at one at 7:15pm and they were packing up. Their website had said they ended at 9pm. Because everyone felt sorry for the kids they got a ton of candy, but not a lot of fun.

The next one we tried was super crowded, but they had a lot more fun with the games.

For some reason Dominic chose to forgo the outfit and only wore the helmet. ??

Dominic and Caitlin have been attending a Lego club at one of the local libraries. But we showed up one day to find out that Lego club had been cancelled until further notice. The kids were heartbroken. So when we got home I gave Dominic a challenge just like he would have gotten during the club meeting. One of the challenges was I asked him to "make me a supper".
This is his version of macaroni and cheese with broccoli.

The club was cancelled because the old librarian quit. But they have a new librarian and she was sweet enough to start the club back up again. The kids were thrilled.

When we got our new kitties I cleaned up the indoor litter box for the kittens to use outside as a bed. Dominic climbed inside with both cats.

Dominic's teacher at school is approximately 6'4. Caitlin, for some reason, wanted to wear his jacket.

Just as a side note - My kids have the coolest teachers. How many people get sweet texts and pictures from their teachers. I love our little school!

Held together with glue!

I honestly thought I'd blogged about this. But I've read back through the blog for a couple of months and can't find it. So pardon if you've read this before.

The other day I was snuggling with Caitlin on the couch. She's such a cuddle bug and I'm going to miss her like crazy when school starts. She's quickly loosing those adorable cheeks she was born with. But when she smiles you can see traces of them. 

Me - "Caitlin, I just love your cheeks. I think I'm going to take them and keep them forever."

Caitlin - "Ok. You can have them."

I acted like I was going to take them off.

Me - "I think they're stuck. I can't get them off."

Caitlin - "Yeah, they're glued on."

Me - "What in the world are they glued on with?"

Caitlin - "Gorilla glue."

I think I've let her watch too much HGTV. 

Speaking of TV. . .

My kids rarely watch cartoons. About the only time they see them is when it's raining or too hot and the babysitter lets them watch a few minutes after lunch. 

When I let the kids watch TV it's HGTV, DIY, or one of the cooking channels. Caitlin's favorite is "House Hunters" and Dominic's favorite is "Chopped". So you can imagine his delight when I received the Chopped cookbook to review. He's been pouring over that book almost as much as the Lego magazines he receives every month. I see some crazy cooking in our future.

The weather has finally decided to be nice. So the kids started enjoying some of the nice aspects of warmer weather.

Random bits

Caitlin is an amazing help around the house. The other day when she finished her usual chore of putting all of the dirty laundry in the laundry room she put all of the white things in the washer and asked for my help with the soap. The next thing I knew she was asking me to reach a dryer sheet because she'd transferred everything to the dryer. When the dryer beeped she took everything out, folded it, and put the folded clothes in everyone's rooms. She made a comment about my "shirts of the night" being on my bed. She was referring to my tank tops that I sleep in.

Caitlin asked me yesterday if we could put pall nalish on our toes.

On the way home from shopping the other day I asked Caitlin what she wanted for lunch. She said green bean salad. I've NEVER made green bean salad. I kept asking different questions until I figured out what she was talking about. It's this -

pasta with peas, tenderbits, and mushroom sauce.

Caitlin was pretending to be pregnant. I've had several friends lately who are either pregnant or just had a baby. But Dominic came into the room and saw her like this and took it in a whole other direction.

 

We've been super busy so I haven't had time to blog. But Dominic's class had a presentation at school that was just precious. One of the parts was the children acting out the book "Alexander and the terrible horrible no good very bad day". Dominic was Alexander and it was hilarious. I'm really wishing I'd recorded it. Guess you'll just have to take my word for it.

 He was asked to write a story. So he wrote the story in comic book style. The drawings were small, but really good. And the story was really funny - typical Dominic humor.

Another race

This last weekend we headed down to Chattanooga so I could run a race. Quite a few of my cousins were running it and I thought it would be fun for the kids as well.

So Sabbath morning after Sabbath School we headed down to the Chattanooga zoo. We have passes and spent several hours there enjoying the animals and fall weather.

Before we got there we stopped at the overpass.

After the zoo we headed to my grandparents for a visit before going to check out our hotel.
Our hotel had a nice pool that we spent some time at.
After supper we went to bed early. The next morning was going to start at 3am.

What a day!!!

This is a typical stay-at-home day. It didn't happen today. After reading this you will understand why I blog at night after the kids are in bed. But every single one of these things DID happen.

And in the words of my mother (who was so sweet to point this out) -

"Wow! They are JUST like you when you were little!"

Thanks mom! Makes me feel so much better.

The morning starts out well enough. Dominic wakes up and we cuddle on the couch while we wait on Caitlin to get up. She usually wakes up and calls for me. But occasionally she will wake up screaming.

Occasionally happened this day.

As we are eating breakfast Caitlin dumps her breakfast on the floor. It is very cold outside so the dogs are in the house. They rush over to help "clean up". Dominic reaches down with his sticky fingers to pet them. Now they need another bath. 

Caitlin gets her hair in her food and swallows it. I have to pull it out of her mouth with the food still attached as she gags.

Both spill their milk and cover their clothes in breakfast.

Caitlin asks to go potty, but before I can get around the bar she pees her pants.

I am washing dishes when I hear a little voice -

"Uh Oh. Huwwy I poop, I poop!"

I hurried, but not fast enough.

It's cold. Weather.com says it's 19 degrees outside. So the dog's water bowls are inside.

Sarah dumps the water on the floor and it runs under the refrigerator.

I moved the refrigerator and mopped up all the water.

Caitlin spends this time eating dog food and emptying my cans out of the cabinets. 

Dominic spends this time emptying every toy in his toy boxes.

I am helping Dominic put his toys away.

Caitlin is putting panties on her head and arms and legs. 

She already had a pair on her bum.

While I am putting her panties back in the drawer I hear a scream from the bathroom. (Dominic tattling.)

I go into the bathroom to find Caitlin getting ready to flush the toilet.

Here is what she had done. 

She had taken a bowl from her kitchen and emptied the water from the toilet into the almost full trash can. 

She then dumped all of her bathroom toys into the toilet. 

This was what she was getting ready to flush when I ran in.

The rug is wet, the toys are gross and WHAT am I supposed to do with that trash can?!

It's now 9am. My day is just beginning!

I'll highlight a few other things that happened later.

Josie stuck her nose in the paint. Dominic backed up against it.

The toys that had been in the toilet were in the tub waiting for a chance to be cleaned. The kids climbed in with their clothes on and are now soaked with toilet bowl water.
I put them at the bar to color so I could play catch up. The bar is now covered in bright green marker, as are both kids.
I've found that dried play doh does NOT come out of carpet.
Caitlin put about 6 cups of kitty litter in the toilet and about half that in the shower. This litter dissolves when it touches liquid. So the toilet is clogged.
Caitlin spilled milk all over the couch.
The dogs peed on the floor because I forgot about them needing to go outside.
The carpet in the living room is wet and smelly because Sarah likes to take a mouth of dog food into the living room to eat it.
Caitlin stripped naked in her crib every time I left her bedroom and never ended up taking a nap.

It's the end of the day. The kids rooms are a disaster. The house is not remotely clean and we had left overs for supper because I didn't have time to cook.
A friend (who doesn't have children) told me that I would look back on this day and smile someday.
You know - She might be right.
But it will be a very long time in the future.
Because tomorrow is likely more of the same.

Going places you shouldn't and other things

Both kids have been caught in places they probably shouldn't be in. So, like the good mom I am, I have to grab the camera and take a picture first. =)

Dominic had been told not to climb the railings on the patio. He's gotten clothes and appendages stuck and we're afraid he'll fall or be left hanging.

The child lock is now activated on the washer and dryer thanks to Caitlin.

I've been trying to come up with creative ways to fix Caitlin's hair. It's baby fine and won't stay no matter what I do with it. I've braided it and it falls apart within minutes. These head bands work great until she realizes what she's wearing and takes it out to look at the "peety bow" as she calls it.

Caitlin eating a tomato like an apple. We were pulling items out of the refrigerator to make lunch and I handed her the container with half a tomato in it. Turned around to find it almost completely in her mouth.

I walked by the back door and saw Dominic laying down with the dogs on either side of him. When I returned with the camera he was hugging them and rubbing their bellies. He never knew I'd taken these pictures. These two dogs sure do love him.
