Flooding

The kids and I had a bit of an adventure this morning. At breakfast Missy (the lady who is in charge of breakfast) was sitting with us chatting. She brings the kids something special every morning. Yesterday it was watermelon. Today is was fruit w/ sugar-free cool whip.
It was pouring down rain and she mentioned that her husband had to go pick up the kids from school because it was closing early due to flooding and because of so many roads being closed the buses weren't running.
On Sunday some friends who live out where we bought our house said that a guy's house completely flooded out. So now I was wondering if maybe I should check the house out to see if it was under water.

There are 5 different ways that I can go to get to my house from Cookeville (we will be living just outside of Cookeville city limits to the north and just south of Algood city limits).
I'm really upset that I forgot my camera. The pictures would have been amazing. But I found a ton of pictures online of the same things so I'll be using them.
The first way had the road completely covered in water. I couldn't tell if the road was washed out or not, but this next picture shows some of the damage that happened just up the road so I'm glad I didn't try to cross because I would have had to turn back anyways.
So I tried the 2nd way next. This is what I came across. The flooding water was so strong that it pushed the train right off the tracks. So I turned around again.
The third way was completely under water with two cars semi floating and the people were patiently waiting on the roof or hoods of their cars. (Don't have a picture of this one, but will post some others.)
So now I went for the 4th way. Go almost all the way there and the road had previously been covered in water, but was now starting to crack and and slid off the road, if that makes sense. So the police (about 5 cars and 3 DOT trucks were there blocking the road.
Now on to the 5th and final way to get to our house. If that didn't work I was stumped and also "trapped" if you use Dominic's words. =)

We came out on the other end of the cracked and sliding road and headed down hill. Stopped to ask an older couple standing in their yard if this happened very often. "No. It doesn't. It only happens 1-2 times a year. And some years not at all". WELL! That was helpful.
Came upon this house and several others even worse.
But the road was higher and only under about 3 inches of water so we kept going. Next dip was slightly better and we went up hill again to our home. It was safe and sound. Whew! What a relief.

We met Jon for lunch and several people there also said this happened a couple of times a year. It started raining again as we left the restaurant and I'm now soaked. But what an adventure!

Here are a couple of other pictures of the area.
Crazy! Isn't it?!
